Straight Talk's "Bring Your Own Verizon Phone" Plan Delayed Until "Later This Week"
Straight Talk representatives have announced on the company's Facebook page that the "CDMA BYOP" plan that was supposed to launch today has been delayed until "later this week".
The plan will allow owners of older non-LTE Verizon phones like the iPhone 4S and Motorola Droid X2 to activate them on Straight Talk's $45 Unlimited Talk, Text and Data Plan. Although there is a fair use cap of around 2 GB/month on that unlimited data, $45 for unlimited everything on the Verizon network is a very good price. Verizon charges $70/month for its own unlimited talk, text and 2 GB data prepaid plan and the best current Verizon MVNO deal for unlimited TnT and 2 GB is $55/month from PagePlus.
StraightTalk's sister brand NET10 will also be launching a CDMA Bring Your Own Phone (BYOP) option according to posts by a NET10 representative on the official NET10 Wireless Forums. NET10's service has a nominal price of $50 a month (reduced to $45/month if you enroll in auto refill) but is otherwise identical to Straight Talk's. NET10 has a family plan option that makes the plan price $40/month for the second and third phones on the account. No date has been mentioned for NET10's CDMA BYOP launch but I expect it to be at the same time as Straight Talk's.
